Stone Elementary School, named for Belle H. Stone, opened its doors in September 1931. It replaced the old Maple School, which was located on Maple Avenue and 23rd St. N.E., and boasted 15 classrooms, an auditorium, a large gymnasium, library and clinic.
An addition was completed in 1958 and housed nine more classrooms, two kindergarten rooms, and a faculty lounge, while the existing building was also remodeled.
As part of the Design for the Future building program, $4.2 million in renovations on Stone Elementary were completed in 2002. The remodeled building still boasts a now historic auditorium, modern classrooms and state of the art technology. The Belle Stone of today retains all of the unique character that has made it a special place to learn for over 75 years.
