Principal’s Welcome

Welcome from the staff and students of Belle Stone Elementary School.  Belle Stone has been the cornerstone of education in the northeast section of Canton for the past 76 years.  Belle Stone’s community consists of proud individuals who have created an atmosphere of pride and understanding so the youth of this area can achieve their dreams.  I am proud to be the leader of a staff that plans for the success of their students each day.

Our goals at Belle Stone are very clear and concise.  We want every student to meet their potential and become productive citizens.  Each day we recite our school Mission Statement:  WE BELIEVE WE CAN ACHIEVE:  CARING, READING, THINKING THINGS THROUGH, ONLY OUR BEST IS WHAT WE’LL DO.  Each student continues to make progress and this makes us proud of the accomplishments of our students.

Belle Stone was totally renovated in the past five years.  The results are fantastic and our School House will stand tall for the next 75 years.  Please stop by and see our auditorium, which is a historic masterpiece.  Thank you for visiting  the Belle Stone web site.

Sincerely,

 Lisa Downard, Principal

STUDENTS LEARN “WHAT’S WILD” ABOUT OHIO

COSI COLUMBUS COMES TO BELLE STONE

 May 9, 2008-
The day begins with a 45-minute interactive assembly introducing the student body to Ohio’s natural habitats, animals, and ways to protect and enjoy them. This fun, educational assembly is followed by hands-on activity sessions during which the students become “field biologists”, to learn the importance of banding animals to track their territories.  They also get the chance to pet real coyote and black bear furs, get an enlarged view of insects while using microscopes and go on a bird hunt.
“The COSI on Wheels program aligns with Ohio Academic Content
Standards and will allow our students to learn about wildlife biology in an
environment that breeds excitement and curiosity about a topic they
might not have clearly grasped in the traditional classroom setting,” said
Mrs. Downard.  “By allowing students to engage in their own learning, they
will have an opportunity they won’t soon forget.”
What’s Wild? is presented by Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife.  COSI is a hands-on science center located in Columbus, Ohio. Each year more than 350,000 students take part in one of the COSI on Wheels programs.
